Woof, Woof,  Yip, Yip  (It's a Dog Park)

 

Dogs just seem to know when you are getting close to the dog park.  Maybe it's the excitement of all the other dogs that clues them in.  Now your dog can easily find the hottest off leash areas to hang out in no matter where you are.

 

Many of these dog parks are shared areas within other parks, so be sure to check out the times  the area is available for off leash use. Not all parks have water available, so be sure you take some.  A running, playing dog will need a drink to keep going.

 

Dogs, remember your manners when visiting the dog park:

  • Be friendly and outgoing, not overbearing or obnoxious.
  • Don't jump on people or knock them over.
  • Listen to your owner (I know it's hard when you are having so much fun).
  • Don't Bark non-stop.

 

Humans you have responsibility at the park too.

  • Read the park rules and abide by them.
  • Never take a puppy under 4 months of age to the park.
  • Only take dogs that are healthy and up to date on immunizations.
  • Do not take a female dog in heat.
  • Bring no more than 2-3 dogs per person.
  • Keep an eye on your dog at all times. Get off the phone, put the book down and know where your dog is and what they are doing at all times.
  • Remove your dog's leash, mixing on-leash and off leash dogs can cause stress and aggression.
  • If using a small dog or shy and timid dog park, carefully evaluate if this is the best place for your dog.  Is your 1 year old Golden Retriever, really a shy or timid dog?
  • Do not take food into the dog park.
  • Use caution in taking small children into an off leash dog park.

  • CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG.
