The site is located in NE Bend between Purcell, Deschutes Market, and Yeoman Roads. The district plans on developing approximately 159 acres at total build-out, including Community Park facilities, a neighborhood park, sports complex, natural areas, fitness trails, bike trails, nature trails, support facilities, connections to surrounding residential lands, an off-leash recreation area, and room for future expansion.

pinenurs.jpgThe Bend LaPine School District has completed construction of Ponderosa elementary school on 15 acres at the Northwest corner of the park.

Park construction began in May 2007 by building the irrigation supply lines and pond for watering the future community park facilities. The State Reclamation and Enhancement Board helped by funding a matching grant to provide a fishing pond for Bend anglers, and the Oregon State Parks local government grant program will help fund park development.

Trails, an off-leash dog area, the fishing pond, and access to natural areas are complete. Sports Complex activities will be scheduled in the summer of 2010.

Phase one facilities under construction:

  • 4 Youth – Adult Softball Fields, 60-70 ft. baseline, 325 ft. outfield fence.
  • 4 Soccer Fields can be overlaid for seasonal/tournament play.
  • Parking Spaces provide access to sports fields, park activities and the off-leash area.
  • Seasonal toilets will provide restroom facilities for phase one with permanent restrooms planned.
  • The Purcell Street entrance provides access for the park and school.
  • Forest management practices for the natural area to reduce fire danger are underway.
  • An irrigation pond for landscaping is complete in partnership with Oregon Fish & Game.
  • Park space for picnics and passive recreation and developed landscaping for windbreaks and buffers.
  • Fencing and access for field maintenance area.
  • Trails through natural park areas.
  • Paved bike/pedestrian loop and connections to existing roads.
  • Dog stations, trash receptacles, drinking fountains, bike parking, signs and general park furnishings proportional to development.
