STAM has been producing grain-free dog treats commercially since 2007. We started out as others do – in a shared commercial kitchen. In 2009, we moved into our own dedicated bakery in Wood Village; and not a day too soon.

We have two dogs: Sammy big boy and Princess Stella cookie pants (shown left). Sam has no allergies and Stella is allergenic to just about everything. We couldn’t find treats suitable for Stella so we started making our own. We would share our extras with friends and soon after, STAM was born. We don’t have baking backgrounds so we didn’t have preconceived notions of what needed to go into our products. We read for several months in search of ingredients we wanted our dogs to have. We read everything from veterinary journals to animal science textbooks to nutrition discussions on-line.

We chose chickpea flour as our base for its outstanding protein content. Some of our ingredients were chosen for their overall health benefits, like chia seed.  The chia plant (shown right) is an herb from the mint family. Chia seed is the highest known plant source of Omega 3 fatty acids (10% more than flax seed). Other ingredients, like activated charcoal powder, were chosen for a specific use. Activated charcoal helps to settle dogs’ stomachs and decrease gas. It’s given in small amounts for digestive maintenance and in large amounts to counteract poisoning. STAM Charcoal & Cranberry treats are used quite a bit on road trips.

STAM does not use any of the following ingredients because of allergies and intolerances:  grains of any kind (including wheat, corn, rye, oats, spelt, quinoa or barley), meat, dairy, eggs, yeast, whey, soy or artificial preservatives. We pride ourselves on only using the finest ingredients; carrots and herbs are picked fresh from the STAM garden seasonally.
