What is K9 Nose Work? In a nutshell, K9 Nose Work is a new dog sport that allows your dog to use his natural ability to detect scent and determine its source. Your dog will learn to search and find a novel scent inside, outside, in containers such as luggage, and on a vehicle. There is a competition program for those who desire, and people and their dogs are welcome to learn this activity just for fun and the joy the dog experiences. Just about any dog can do K9 Nose Work Puppies, old dogs, and all in between, and any breed or mix. Even dog reactive dogs can play, because only one dog at a time is working both in classes, training, and in competition. People all across the country are noting how the focus of scent detection work is helping their reactive dogs ignore other dogs, environmentally sensitive dogs get comfortable in many environments, and unfocused dog become more focused. K9 Nose Work is a great addition to any behavior modification program. In training classes the handlers learn to set up situations so that the dog is first increasing his hunt drive, learning to find the hidden food reward or in some cases a toy. They start looking in cardboard boxes, than learn to find the “hide” outside of the boxes. The next step is to help the dog associate the scent with the reward the dog gets. As training progresses, searches get more difficult and less box oriented, and the reward is given after the scent is found. Unsinkable Dogs K9 Warm Water Swim Center We are a warm-water swim center built exclusively for use by dogs. All kinds of dogs swim here for all kinds of reasons. The benefits of swimming in warm, clean water and with a specially trained swim coach are numerous. Because of the buoyancy of water, the forces of gravity are greatly reduced. The result is considerably less stress on joints. Swimming uses all the key weight-bearing muscles of the body. This means that dogs can build strength and flexibility whether they have normal strength on land, or suffer from weakness due to a medical condition, or as a result of aging. The warmth of the water along with the hydrostatic pressure is soothing to sore or arthritic joints. And even more than for humans, the aerobic and core strength building benefits are unbeatable. Unsinkable Dogs is more than just a pool. The people of Unsinkable Dogs bring a wide variety of backgrounds and skills together to offer dogs and owners a unique experience. Unsinkable Dogs offers:
