no they dont do anything, they just sleep, but no messed up furniture, no messes, nothing at all, and they do free roam
My dog’s allowed free roam of the house when everyone’s gone. She’s never had an accident. The reason we leave her out is because we know she’ll stay on her bed upstairs, as she’s terrified of one of the cats.
no my dog is house trained and he roams the house al the time
They have always had free roam of the house. The only time I came home to messes were when they were pups.
Yes I let my dog have full roam of the house and he does not tear anything up or go potty on the floor. Hes awesome.
My dog does. But lately she has had some “messes” =’P
I do not know why. She might be sick.
I have a Siberian Husky with Separation/General Anxiety who will rip up carpet and scratch up doors and molding so we have to crate her now.
My Papillon, however, is trustworthy enough to have free run while I’m out so he can do as he pleases. He does not have accidents and is not destructive. Although he does have an obsession with ripping up toilet paper and paper towels so we’ll find shreds sometimes. He also goes into the laundry and plays with my underwear.
Yes, they all wander freely. No, they don’t make a mess, pee on the floor, tear up furniture, or anything else troublesome. As long as a dog is taught what’s acceptable in the house and what is not they won’t. If your having a problem or are worried your going to you can contact a dog trainer and ask them about how to stop this behavior.
I don’t usually leave mine in the house all day most of the time since we have a mild climate and they have a nice comfortable outside area (they are always in when I am home and at night). But on occasion I do – when the weather is bad or cold for example. And they never damage anything or go inside the house. Good training and I never leave them so long that they can’t hold it.
Not just no but, HELL NO! My three Saints are kenneled during the day. I wouldn’t have a house to come home to. My old Lab does and the Peke too but, the Poodle is confined to the kitchen.
my dogs roam freely around the house the are house trained and wait until we come home for their walk
My two roam also. Sometimes they tear up a magazine and sometimes they don’t. They are still pups though.
No way! who would be there to call a vet if they got hurt?
i think u should let him be freely because if u dont he will be sad and also u can train him as well. if i were u i would want to train him so he could behave better than last time.
Absolutely not. If the dog is not working with me, he is in his crate.
i have 3 dogs and only one gets free roam of the house when i am gone i am a stay at home mom so I’m home most of the time and if i do go anywhere its not for long when i do go my two puppies go in there crates we are doing the potty training thing and plus the other day i felt like being nice i guess and ran up to the store and left them out and i came back and they had a huge hole in one of my couch cushions i was only gone like 15 minutes:(
I have a chocolate lab who just recently turned two and he is still crazy. He has been crate trained since he was a puppy and he isn’t at the stage yet where we can leave him out when no one is home. And believe me we have tried. The last time we let him roam free while everyone went to work and school, he ate the couch. He literally ate it. There was a huge whole on the cushion and all the insides were out. So now we have a brand new couch in the living room and we are afraid to test it again and see if he can be let out yet.
My last 2 dogs had free reign of the house. One was a black lab that I adopted from a shelter at the age of 3, so she was already trained and past the puppy stage. My other dog (also adopted from a shelter) was a 7 month old corgi mix and I didn’t work at the time, but there were times he was left in the house when I had to run errands and grocery shop. He NEVER chewed anything that wasn’t his, messed with the birdcages, potties inside – nothing.
I now have an 8 month old dachshund/corgi mix, and boy howdy, it will be a long time before he has free reign when home alone. I still don’t work (disabled since the age of 23), but he has to be kenneled if I leave for any amount of time, for his own safety and my sanity.
Yes, yes, yes, no, and not really.
We have a 14 year old Mini Schnauzer who occasionally has incontinence issues. She has free roam of the house while we’re gone, and we have a dog door, so really the only problem is when she pees in her sleep or something gets her so wound up when she first wakes up that she forgets to go outside before investigating whatever it is that has her attention.
No she is locked in the kitchen when we go to work. She used to do the things you described when she was a pup.
When I go out I put him in the laundry, Sounds like it would a good idea for you to put him in a inclosed area until he is trained and knows how to behave.
Well, the wife is home all day, but yes, sometimes we leave them in the house if we’re gone for a few hours.
We are SOOO lucky. One of our dogs is a German Shepherd and the other is Aussie Cattle Dog. ACD are notorious for tearing things up but our little guy is VERY good.
We make sure they’ve been out to potty and leave them plenty of rawhides & toys.
We also leave the TV on to a news channel so they have human voices to listen to.
Oh yes. We also close the doors to bedrooms & bathrooms.
I have 2 that I leave to roam freely around the house when I go out. They do not make a mess ever, they do not pee on the floor, and never would, they do not tear up the furniture.. The only exciting adventure they have is sleeping on the couch, waiting til we get home.
Yes, my dog has been freely roaming the house since she was house-broken (3 yrs. ago). (And even if they are caged, they can still get hurt and there will be no one to care for them, so that should rule out a reason for caging them.) Why did I get a dog? To guard my home when I am gone. She is a mini-dachshund.
Feisty lil thing, tho
no, she’s 8 months old, even though she seems like she might be reliable. I live in an apt and have to worry about the security deposit so i’d rather not take my chances. When i get a house however, and more rooms so there isn’t crap all over the kitchen table, i’ll prolly let her roam, she’ll also be 4 years old by then too.
no because the dog might just get in everything so i dont let my dog roam around while i am gone beccause one day when i came home my dog had everything in the house everywhere one good thing to do is put the dog in the bathroom but make sure you put everything up out the way like the tissue, and anything else that you think your dog whould get to
No my dogs get to go to work with me…But no they are very good even if I have to leave them for the day…
Both my dogs have been left in the house since they were house trained and through with teething. I’ve never had any messes or destructive behavior. I’ve had 5 other dogs that I’ve been able to leave too. I’m convinced that a well exercised, tired dog doesn’t get into mischief in the house.
A dog’s life is short in comparison to a natural human’s. Therefore, I let my dog do whatever it feels necessary within the laws of his obedience. And he/she is rewarded for their loyalty, as I am to them for my own loyalty.
I don’t let my dog roam around the house when I am not there because he will do exactly what you mentioned plus more…he would pee on the floor because he has no doggie door to go outside to do his business, plus he would knock over the trash cans looking for tissues with our scent or food, and although he never has, I wouldn’t doubt that he might tear up things because he is sad we are gone. So what I do is leave him outside in the backyard with his toys, food, water, and a warm blanket that has our scent so he does not get lonely.
when I first got my puppy I kept him in a kennel when I was gone, then that just seemed cruel because I was gone so often. I eventually let him have free roam of the house. He was fine and never had accidents on the floor.
