I was a really lucky dog, when my first humans dumped me on the street I was really scared. I’d been on my own a couple of days and was hiding under a car wondering were to find something to eat, when this cute little Yorkie showed up out of no where. She told me if I came out her humans would give me something to eat and help me get home. I really didn’t want to go home but I was pretty hungry. No one claimed me so I got to stay with Fido and my new humans. Not all dogs are lucky enough to find a new forever home right away. Many of them are better off then I was their Humans made sure they were okay by leaving them somewhere where they will be cared for.
There are many rescue groups in the Portland area, some are breed specific some will help any dog like Oregon Dog Rescue.
Right now Oregon Dog Rescue has many dogs that will be spending the holiday’s with foster families. You can help make these holiday a little brighter with your donations.
Barbara Roach with Oregon Dog Rescue has put together a Christmas list for the dogs so if you’d like to help make their Holiday’s a little brighter you’ll know just what they need.
- Pill Pockets (lots of senior dogs and dogs on medication need these)
- Laundry Detergent fragrance and dye free (the dogs track in dirt and mud in the winter)
- Paper Towels
- Cash to help with higher heating and electric bills
- Cash for the extra vet bills from all the puppies born in the spring and summer who now need spay/neuter.
- Gift certificates from PetSmart, Petco, Fred Meyers or any dog supply store.
- Gift certificates for baths at a self bathing business. It’s hard to bath the larger dogs in the winter (brrr..cold!) (most our fosters are located on the west side of town, Beaverton and Tualatin)
- Gift certificates for coffee places or restaurants. We need to eat on the go when picking up dogs in Troutdale, Salem, St. Helens, etc.
- Gift certificates for gas. Our rescue rig is always on the go
- Gift certificates for Costco (We buy food, rawhides, dental chews, cleaning products, paper, ink and more there!)
- Gift certificate for a handyman or painter (our fences, doors and yards take a beating this time of year)
- Gift certificate for a auto detail or car wash.
If you’d like to help the dogs at Oregon Dog Rescue you can visit their web site at http://www.oregondogrescue.org/ or drop of items at Tualatin Petsmart on Saturdays from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.
