Doggie Paddle

How do I get myself into these things,  I'm a Chihuahua, not a water dog, but there's no arguing with Fido when she wants a story.  So like the good little dog I am, it's off to check out the new doggie pool.

When we arrived at Lexi Dog Boutique and Social Club on Macadam,  we meet with the owner of Doggie Paddle, Julie Thomas.  Julie, a trained canine swim coach and certified Small Animal Massage practitioner,  has too great loves;  the water and dogs.  She was eager to fill us in on the dream she has been working towards for years.

Not just an obedience trainer

Instead of a new dog sport, or great place to play I found something really exciting for this column. I’ve been out and about meeting some of the best doggie people around. Just last week I meet the paws down most interesting training in Portland, Emily Martin.

Lacamas Sheepdog Trial

Hundreds of years ago shepherds held sheepdog contests to see who had the best dogs.  The dogs just figured it was fun to run around and show off the skills they used in their daily chores.  In 1873 the first official sheepdog trial was held in Wales.  Today the art of the sheepdog has developed into a competitive sport with national and international competitions.  The elements of the modern trial still represent the work a Border Collie would do on the farm and in the fields.  And the dogs are having more fun than ever.… Continue reading Lacamas Sheepdog Trial
